FROM NEWBORN TO ONE YEAR

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO SCHEDULE A BABY PHOTOSHOOT?

Welcoming a new member into the family is a joyous occasion that deserves to be cherished and documented. One of the most popular ways to capture those precious early moments is through a baby photoshoot. These sessions freeze time, preserving the innocence and beauty of your little one for years to come. But when is the best time to schedule a baby photoshoot? Let's explore the different stages of a baby's first year to find the perfect window for capturing those heart-melting images.

NEWBORN (0-2 WEEKS)

The newborn stage is a fleeting period filled with delicate features, sleepy expressions, and pure innocence. During this time, your baby is still adjusting to the world and spends most of their time sleeping. To capture the essence of their newness, scheduling a photoshoot within the first two weeks is ideal. During this window, babies are more likely to curl up naturally, showcasing their adorable little poses. Newborn photographers are skilled in handling newborns safely and know how to create a calm and comfortable environment for both baby and parents.

THREE TO FOUR MONTHS

As your baby grows, they begin to develop their own personality, making the three to four-month mark another excellent time for a photoshoot. By this stage, they have started to gain more control over their movements and are becoming more interactive. This period is characterized by adorable smiles, coos, and captivating expressions. Their tummy time is also improving, allowing photographers to capture those endearing moments of pushing up and attempting to roll over. Additionally, babies at this age tend to make eye contact and engage with the camera, resulting in captivating portraits.

SIX TO EIGHT MONTHS

The six to eight-month stage is an exciting time when your baby starts to sit up unassisted and may even begin crawling or scooting around. Their growing curiosity and exploration make for incredibly adorable photographs. During this period, photographers can capture the genuine expressions of wonder and discovery as your baby interacts with their surroundings. Props and toys can be incorporated to enhance the visual narrative and create a playful atmosphere. These sitting-up milestones provide an opportunity to showcase your baby's unique personality and capture those infectious giggles.

NINE TO TWELVE MONTHS

The nine to twelve-month stage marks the final stretch of the first year, with your baby on the brink of taking their first steps. This is a fantastic time to schedule a photoshoot to capture their mobility and newfound independence. From standing with support to taking assisted steps, your baby's determination and curiosity shine through in these images. Photographers can capture their sense of wonder as they explore the world around them, creating candid and heartwarming memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Ultimately, the best time to schedule a baby photoshoot depends on the type of images you envision and the milestones you want to capture. It's important to consider your baby's comfort, as well as their awake and alert times. Some photographers offer milestone packages that cover multiple stages throughout the first year, allowing you to document your baby's journey from newborn to their first birthday.

Remember, the key is to capture these fleeting moments before they are gone. Every stage of your baby's first year holds its own unique charm, and investing in professional photography ensures that you will have beautiful keepsakes to treasure for a lifetime. So, whether you choose to capture the delicate newness of the newborn stage or the adventurous spirit of a crawling baby, scheduling a baby photoshoot is a decision that you won't regret.

As a newborn and baby photographer, and also as a mother, my personal favourite stages are the newborn stage, the 6-7 month mark and the first birthday. If I had to choose one, it would be the newborn stage because there is something so precious about those first few weeks after birth. As a parent myself, I always want to revisit and remember that quiet time of adjustment, learning, wonder and excitement.
